![]() Welcome to Black Marine Reunions. We have been having reunions since 2005! Over the years, generally the only time Black Marines would see each other would be at funerals for fallen comrades. After attending funeral services for a fallen Marine in California, April 2002, six Marines decided to come together at a time other than to pay respect to a fallen brother or sister. The time had arrived and the planning began at that moment in the funeral home parking lot. During our planning we felt a need to document the contribution that we as Black Marines have made to the Marine Corps during our service to the country. As we all know it wasn't easy to achieve our accomplishments! We believe that it is our responsibility and duty to inform those Marines that are now serving and future Marines of our legacy. We don't know of any archives at Headquarters Marine Corps which documents in detail our service as Black Marines other than the service of the Montford Point Marines. It appears that recording had stopped, after the Montford Pointers. Even today, the new Marine Corps Museum provide little evidence of Black Marine service other than a brief video clip of Retired LT. Gen. Frank E. Petersen and other Black Marines. There are references to our service in combat but not how we have progressed in the technical job descriptions and leadership throughout the Marine Corps! A member of our first planning committee talked to a young Marine at Headquarters Marine Corps and the Marine didn't even know about Montford Point Marines. The sad thing is at the time the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps was Black! The Montford Point Marines were the spearhead for the introduction of Blacks to the Marine Corps but we the Post Montford Pointers are the main force that led the advancement of Blacks in the Marine Corps. Those who attend our reunions are Retired, former active duty and Reserve Marines who represent over six and half (6 1/2) decades of our service and contribution to the success of the Marine Corps. There are many success stories of those that are “Montford Point and Post Montford Point Marines.” We will continue to document our contribution to the Marine Corps, “As we lived and experienced it!” Another reason for these reunions is to create a Network to remain in contact with each other. How many times have you wondered where a fellow Marine is today? With the Mailing List you will be able to contact someone who may know the answer to that question. Our first three reunions have attracted on average 250 to 300 Marines and guest. We always have a great time and can’t wait to meet again two years later. Thank you for your interest in attending Black Marine Reunions throughout the United States. Semper Fi, “The Gator” The comment section is restricted to members only. |
